Thermal Imaging

All home inspection companies promise a thorough and objective inspection. What makes an Intellispect inspection different?

What is Thermal Imaging?

Thermal Imaging is a powerful, non-invasive, non-destructive inspection method that allows the experienced thermal imaging inspector to detect flaws otherwise invisible to traditional inspection methods.

How does it work?

Intellispect uses a state-of-the-art FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) camera to take “heat pattern images” of objects in and around your home. These images are used to identify potential flaws in your home. Because issues like moisture in wall and ceiling cavities, faulty wiring, the presence of termites, active mold, wet insulation, missing insulation, leakage at ducts, etc. affects the surrounding temperature, heat-sensitive photography can reveal these and other issues that just cannot be seen by the naked eye or with conventional or digital photography.

Why is it necessary to get a thermal imaging scan before purchasing or before your homes warranty expires?

Infrared thermography provides an invaluable service to home inspectors and their clients. The technology allows an inspector a non-destructive method to find previously invisible defects and to substantiate findings or other means of testing with an illustrative test to indicate what is happening behind or inside the homes walls or ceilings.

Thermal imaging has been used for commercial applications for many years to identify maintenance and repair needs. The price point and portability of thermal imaging equipment is making this technology more accessible for the home inspection industry. Oh sure, some of these (e.g. water under carpet) would have been detectable if I was barefoot, or had crawled into inaccessible areas of the attic, etc. The point is that during a normal inspection, these are the issues that get overlooked.
